St Bernard Project
Four years after Katrina and New Orleans still needs our help. My daughter and I headed down to volunteer with St. Bernard Project. We spent the week sheet-rocking and here’s what we got out of it: useful skills involving power drills and chalk lines, new friends, and an overwhelming urge to spread the word that New Orleans needs you. St. Bernard Project has built 221 homes so far and hopes to build 1600 by 2010, the 5 year anniversary of Katrina. Many volunteer organizations have age restrictions, but St. Bernard will accept kids as young as my 14 year old (with an adult). She loved it and can’t wait to go back. No time to volunteer? Donations gratefully accepted, too.
