Slow global warming and lose weight? If you’re a fan of Bittman’s NY Times column and cookbooks (the indispensable How to Cook Everything) you’re going to love this one. It’s a diet! AND, more importantly “A Guide to Conscious Eating”. According to Bittman: “In terms of energy consumption, serving a typical family of four steak dinner is the rough equivalent of driving around in an SUV for three hours while leaving all the lights on at home.” Enough to turn you into a vegetarian, but here’s the good thing about this book: that’s not what he’s suggesting. Cut a few meat meals from your diet every week, add lots of plants and whole grains, and voila: healthier planet and healthier you. Plenty of simple, clean recipes, too.
