The Farmacy at La Belle Aurore
Are hand-pies the next big food trend? Well, if not, they’re on my radar. Last year, Breville introduced a personal pie baker. Then this summer, my neighbor, Heidi (famous for her killer lemon squares), showed up at a party with a flaky, cherry version. Of course, everything is cuter in individual servings. Just look at the cupcake phenomenon. So I was excited to find baskets of hand-pies at The Farmacy, La Belle Aurore’s new take-out corner. On my visit, Shrimp, Spinach and Wild Mushroom, Andouille in a Blanket, and Winter Vegetable were on the menu. The veggie pie, bursting with beets, brussels sprouts and Beltane Farms goat cheese, was my favorite. The pies easily feed two and range from $5 to $10. A couple of pies, some salad and a bottle of hearty red make a cozy winter dinner in front of the fire.
