Eat / restaurants / Cafe Flo
Big news at Cafe Flo this year: they’ve decamped from the Landscape Center Barn to the long swath of terrace smack on the banks of the Lieutenant River. You’ll instantly understand how this view galvanized the Lyme Art Colony in the first place. It’s stunning: osprey flapping idly on their nests, a kayak or two lazily plying the water and (yes!) a soft, cool breeze on a hot summer day.
The menu runs from burgers and Lobster BLT’s to Bahn Mi and Tuna Tartare (my choice, delish; but the sweet/tart lime curd made a prettier picture), wine and kid’s plates ($5) are available. Head over for lunch any day but Monday. Then peak into the galleries to see On Hudson, an exhibit on loan from The Albany Institute, of Hudson River School panoramic landscapes to new works by contemporary artists inspired by the genre.
Live local? New London County residents get in free the week of July 17 – 22, thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of Eastern CT. Also a don’t-miss: the Hot Air Club’s annual outdoor soiree featuring Jamie’s Junk Show, this Friday, July 13th at 6:30pm. Tickets are $30/members, $35 non members and include drinks and light fare.
