Bon Vivant Home
It’s easy to see why designer Robin Rountree’s shop, Bon Vivant, is a hang out. She’s a southern girl who makes everyone feel welcome. During my visit, Marily MacKinnon (Robin’s partner in design), ran out for cappuccinos for all of us, a couple of pooches curled up at my toes and another customer became a new friend. In the meantime, Robin was tossing off her list of secret resources: the best upholsterer in Waterford, a great spot for antique glass in Westbrook, her contact in France who is as obsessed with French lighting as she is, a gold-leaf guy in Guilford, THE source for lampshades. Most designers keep this info to themselves, but not Robin. Her world is about relationships and you’ll benefit from hers. Robin’s signature is to make everything old, new again, and it’s evident in the painted armoirs and restyled antique chandeliers (tons!). If your style runs to a vintage, French-inspired mix in shades of pale gray and white, head here and pick Robin’s brain.
