Guys and Boats

I know what my husband REALLY wants for Father’s Day: a boat. While that’s not happening anytime soon, one of these aquatic adventures could be in the cards. Here’s a list of day sails and boat rides:

Day sails, lobster dinner and full moon cruises or overnight on the 110′ tall ship, Mystic Whaler.

The Mary E. has returned for the season to the CT River Museum. The 100+ year old (and last of its kind) gaff rigged schooner sails daily from Steamboat Dock.

Set sail from Mystic on the 81′ Argia, a modern replica of a 19th century sailing schooner. Public day sails and charters available or consider the Argia for an unusual kid’s birthday party: a Marine Science Expedition to learn about oceanography, coastal ecology and the marine environment.

Tour the Thimble Islands aboard the Volsunga IV, sailing from Stony Creek.

Mystic Seaport is known for their fleet of rare and historic boats. Enjoy all manner of nautical excursion from row boat rentals to a 61′ schooner sail to an afternoon on a classic wooden motor yacht.

Sail AND brunch (including Father’s Day) from various points along on the CT River with Lady Katharine Cruises.

Climb aboard Riverquest, a 64’ catamaran for a comfy daytime, sunset, or educational cruise on the CT River.

Looking for a longer cruise? Charter the motor yacht, Real Escape, from Saybrook Point Inn and head out for a weekend with Captain Graham.

Joy Sherman of Joy Ride Charters provides one-on-one lessons for new boat owners and first mates, or if you just need a few tips to dock with confidence. Charter the 35′ Hado and she’ll take you out for a sunset, full day or therapeutic cruise.

A Sunset Champagne cruise for two on the Ocean House’s Dandy, is right up my alley.
