I’m back to books. For the last five years, I’ve been splitting my time between my Kindle (or iPad) and the real thing. Yes, I love my gadgets, especially for travel: it’s handy to tote a slew of novels on vacation without lugging anything more than a gizmo. But here’s the thing. When someone asks whether I’ve read a particular book, I scour my memory. The title sounds familiar. I may have read it. What was it about again? I’m convinced, without the actual book cover, the jacket notes, the author’s photo that I flip back to again and again, I simply forget that I’ve read it. But I’m completely off topic. This is mainly to let you readers know that The Big Book Club is setting up at The Kate on October 27th and will feature a bunch of famous authors, including B.A. Shapiro (could NOT put The Art Forger down), Brunonia Barry of The Lace Reader, Suzanne Palmieri, writer of The Witch of Little Italy and more. The all-day event features discussions, signings, a boxed lunch, even a pyschic, and real, authentic books for sale. $55. Click here for more info and tickets.
