Frizzante Champagne & Wine Bar

Frizzante Champagne & Wine Bar
North Stonington

The Spanish say vino de aguja. The French say petillant. The Germans say perlwein. But the Italians say frizzante. No matter how you say it, a glass of sparkling wine ranks right up there with chocolate in my book of cure-alls. So a trip to the newly opened Frizzante brought out my inner kid-in-a-candy-store. Whether you fancy the grapes of France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Chile, or Napa Valley, your taste buds will be tantalized by the extensive variety available on the monthly-changing wine list – ranging from rare wines to your local favorites and then some. Owner Stephen Clemente likes to think of Frizzante as a “wine bar by day, speakeasy by night.” On my recent visit during “Gangsters and Gumshoes Murder Mystery Night,” I whispered the password “whodunnit” to gain entrance. Clad in pinstripes and a fedora, I enjoyed a “Vixen” (champagne and black cherry brandy cocktail) while receiving clues to help determine if it was Bugs Moran with a Tommy gun in the smoking lounge that had done it. I might not have solved the crime but I enjoyed the classic smooth jazz atmosphere akin to the prohibition era. Text 95577 to join the “Secret Speakeasy Society.” Open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 3-9pm; Fridays 3-11pm; Saturdays 12-11pm; and Sundays 12-7pm. No password required for wine bar entrance.
