Taco Night at Simon’s, Chester
We never leave Chester without a salty buttered baguette from Simon’s (they call it crack bread for a reason), and now we can stay for dinner, too. Every Friday is Taco Night and frankly, they don’t need a shout out. We headed up for the second week and it was packed shortly after 6pm. We were so excited about the well-priced menu that we ordered everything! The Guacannoli was a fun starter of fried flour tortilla filled with guac and topped with feta. A small plate of pan-seared shrimp with roasted garlic and tomato was a lighter accompaniment. And then the tacos! I, for one, can’t resist pork belly and glad I didn’t. A tangy topping of red onions and pickled apples provides a nice contrast to the rich and salty meat. Shredded Jerk chicken had a lovely, smokey flavor and the vegetarians among us were quite happy with the polenta fried avocado. Tacos range from four to seven dollars, sides are a la carte and large enough to share (order the roasted Brussels sprouts and Mexican rice for the table). We finished up with a basket of addictive bite-sized churros with warm, slightly spicy chocolate sauce. This is a winner. BYOB. Friday’s only.
