Tall Tales at Saybrook Point Inn
You may be surprised to hear that Saybrook Point Inn was the first full-service hotel in Connecticut to receive an energy star rating. They take eco-friendly extremely seriously here, down to eco-smart thermostats in all the rooms, composting for their on-site garden, and reusing excess energy created by the hotel to heat both their salt water pools. Oh, and electric car owners will be happy to charge up right on on site! What we love is that this locally-owned and operated hotel refuses to rest on it’s ecological laurels, not even in their brand spanking-new properties across the street. Three Stories, a completely restored Captain’s mansion opened last year, and Tall Tales is a new build that opened this month.
Last week we got a chance to tour the property and drool over the fresh but homey decor by talented interior design Lisa Silver and fantasize about a weekend stay. Each of the six rooms is unique with bursts of coral, lemon and periwinkle, balanced by plenty of bright white. Most rooms sport amenities like electric fireplaces, marble walk-in showers, flat screens and cozy seating areas, plus views of the lighthouse or cove. We love the mix of antiques and brass fixtures and would happily rest our weary heads on any of the fluffy beds. Perfect for bridal parties or family reunions, both properties have kitchens for guest use, billiard rooms and game tables, even a grilling station out back. Continental breakfast is set up in the lounge daily (included), but head over to Fresh Salt for one of our favorite brioche-encrusted, hot buttered lobster rolls on the Shoreline, with homemade potato chips for lunch. Next up? A top-to-toe reno of the one bedroom lighthouse suite. Can’t wait!
