Skappo Family Kitchen

We love locally made products just as much as we love local businesses. The Sincavage family, hailing from New Haven (by way of Assisi), are best known for their Italian wine bar and take-out market. New to Skappo (meaning escape), are four flavors of sandwich spreads for fans to take a little bit of their kitchen home: Balsamic Red Onion, Tangy Apricot, Savory Apple Plum and Classic Fig are made with all natural ingredients like fruit, vinegar and cane sugar with no added junk.

When introduced to the spreads, we headed straight for the-e-list test kitchen to see what sort of creative spin we might put on this intriguing collection of condiments. We’ve included one irresistible sandwich (tomatoes are still abundant!) and the rest are various tips for use.

Bacon, Romaine, Heirloom Tomato, aioli and Balsamic Red Onion on thick toast. This adds an important layer of tart and sweet to this ridiculous sandwich. Pictured above: With Bacon. Below: Veggie version.

Balsamic Fig

Carr’s Table Water Crackers with Camembert and Savory Apple Plum. This resembles a zippy chutney. Adds a bit of texture to the creamy cheese.

Grilled Naan with Stilton, Prosciutto di Parma, candied pecans and Classic Fig. The fig spread gives just the right amount of sweet to the salty and savory components on this one.

Grilled Chicken with Tikka Masala sauce, topped with Tangy Apricot. I serve this with Jasmine Rice, cucumber and garbanzo salad and grilled zucchini. I buy Maya Kaimal brand Tikka Masala sauce at any local grocery.
