A Fresh New Face for Fitness on the Water

I  always love an inspiring entrepreneurial story, and Heidi Kunzli’s is a good one. Her company, Essex Wellness, is fast becoming the health and wellness destination on the Shoreline. Currently, in Essex and Westbrook, Essex Wellness’ Fitness on the Water has expanded to a fresh new space at the Shops at Water’s Edge to accommodate her growing following. Always on the vanguard of fitness, the new boutique gym will continue to offer all that Fitness on the Water is known for, plus plenty of new classes to recharge your 2017 resolutions. What I find so interesting about Heidi’s concept, is her approach: her concern is overall fitness: mind AND body. To that end, the offerings include mindfulness meditation along with your hour of Pilates. The focus is on your optimal health: physical, mental and emotional, and the offerings range from weight loss management to addiction counseling, acupuncture to Reiki. Dr. Dana Krete, one of the most highly sought after naturopathic physicians on the Shoreline is on staff, and her monthly Clean Eating Meetings are extremely popular for support and motivation on your quest for nutritional health. Dana Brown, (my first personal trainer when I arrived in CT and I LOVE her upbeat enthusiasm) heads up the in-depth Pilates program at the new facility.

But that’s not all. Fitness on the Water is the first spot on the Shoreline offering trending classes like Rock Star Pound (an aerobic class inspired by playing the drums), Shockwave Rowing (known to be the FASTEST way to get in shape), Willpower & Grace (a barefoot cardio class), and well, everything else: Barre, Cardio Dance (a Zumba alternative), gentle yoga and more. After your exercise, head to the infrared sauna (known for detoxification and relaxation) and enjoy a healing sweat session then jump in the shower for a cold plunge. There’s a social component, too, in the new space: a comfy lounge for tea and chatting (plus wifi and charging stations). I ran over last week for a peek, the space is lovely and zen (SO unlike most gyms) and I love the lux touches, like scented towels and fruit infused water.

Give the new Fitness on the Water a try and enjoy a FREE class for you and a friend. During the month of March, try the Infrared Sauna. It’s free for 30 minutes from 3/1 through 3/28/17. Mention the-e-list or call ahead, valid through 3/28/17.
