Rustic Barn, Killingworth

I’ve been meaning to hit the Rustic Barn since they moved to their new location on Route 81 in Killingworth since last year. I finally made it last weekend, and what a surprise! Expecting a barn full of hand-hewn furniture, I was surprised to find a meticulously merchandised selection of great gifts, tabletop and garden accessories, hand-poured candles and so much more. Lisa Martin is the merchandising maven behind the scenes here. After a successful career in fashion, she gave it up to live her dream: this lovely shop. It’s a perfect pairing, too, her husband is the furniture guru, building pretty much anything you can dream up, and hand-applying his artfully distressed finishes. On the hunt for a custom size table, bar or media console? Work with Steve to choose your reclaimed or traditional materials, and he’ll have it ready for you in 8 to 10 weeks.

Fans of Joanna Gaines will love all the treats in the shop, from cement chargers to handmade stoneware baking dishes in neutral tones with bits of blue. Lisa offers up her shop to groups of six or more on Wednesday evenings for shopping parties and candle-making workshops. Check the website for dates. Say you saw it on the-e-list and take 15% off merchandise (excluding furniture) through April 2, 2017.
