White Gate Farm is offering a heritage turkey this year called “White Holland” – a very old and now rare variety that originated in Mexico, and brought to Europe in the 1500’s, first documented in England in the early 1800’s, and accepted into the U.S. Standard of Perfection in 1874. Because of their wide breasts and short legs they were an important commercial bird in this country in the early part of the twentieth century.
