Selene of Porky Pete's BBQ fame, just opened a downtown candy store with Southern spirit and an old-timey vibe. Cases of towering cakes, giant pecan turtles and a basket of home-baked breads will draw you in, but it's the adorable honor system "penny" candy that will keep you and your kids occupied for hours. For a treat that comes with a math lesson, choose your candy from the kid-friendly shelf and pay for it by placing your coins in the antique Minnie and Mickey banks. Give Selene a day or two notice and she'll whip up a classic birthday cake with buttercream frosting or one of her famous chocolate cream pies. The catering arm of Porky Pete's is housed here, too.
