Those in the know have been heading to Angie Lu for expert alterations, tailoring, and an extensive collection of men’s Italian suits (custom fitted on premises!). Expanded and ensconced in fresh digs in Madison, Angie Lu’s bevy of seamstresses are keeping busy these days with wedding dress fittings and all manner of nips and tucks. While you may hear the buzz of sewing machines in the background, the shop is a serene oasis, all white and pale wood, sunlight, and chandeliers; more private designer atelier than storefront.

The day I visited, a blushing (truly!) and slightly anxious bride, was having a very last minute fitting for her wedding the following day, and Angie was happy to oblige. Bring in your closet full of ill-fitting or out-of-date clothes and have them remade, or browse the racks of Italian designs. You’ll love the old-fashioned customer service; the norm here, and not the easiest thing to come across these days. And the place just oozes happy.
