Housed in a National Register 1878 steamboat warehouse, the Connecticut River Museum is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the natural beauty and cultural heritage of New England’s Great River. Explore 410 miles of water and 450 years of history through interactive exhibits, river cruises, special programs, heritage festivals, children’s camps and more!
Climb aboard a replica of Turtle, the world’s first submarine used during the American Revolutionary War, and strike a blow for liberty. Experience the 1814 British raid on Essex, travel back to the age of steamships, or enjoy the River’s cool waters and wildlife from the decks of Schooner Mary E. Complete your visit in the Museum Shop offering a fine collection of maritime books, gifts and art or simply stroll the Museum’s historic waterfront grounds overlooking scenic Essex Harbor.
