Enjoy live music, a food stroll and celebrations of the arts in all their forms at the Westerly Bricks and Murals Festival, featuring Walldogs, from September 13 – 17th.
More than 100 talented volunteer “Walldog” artists from across the United States and Europe will converge in Westerly, RI and Pawcatuck, CT to hand paint 14 murals on local business walls. This is New England’s premiere live mural painting festival and the first time the Walldogs will create a multi-mural collection on the East Coast.
Walldogs are highly skilled sign painters and mural artists from all over the globe who visit American towns annually to paint in locally-organized mural art festivals. In 2013, local Walldog and professional sign painter Cam Bortz interested community member Jean Gagnier in a Westerly-Pawcatuck art festival idea. The duo traveled to Midwestern communities that have successfully hosted similar festivals and experienced success in embracing the art form of outdoor murals. Bortz presented the idea of an East Coast event to fellow Walldogs during the 2015 Delevan, WI festival, and they jumped on board.
About Bricks and Murals
Bricks and Murals is a grassroots artistic and economic movement slated to enhance the historic downtown Westerly-Pawcatuck community by funding and maintaining originally designed murals showcasing the culture and history of the region in September 2017. As downtown Westerly-Pawcatuck continues to grow into a regional center of arts, dining and shopping, Bricks and Murals will provide a lasting display of public art that will not only beautify the town, but also will help to strategically shape the physical and social character of the downtown around its cultural and economic growth.
