26 Lyme Street: A New Antiques & Interiors Shop Opens in Old Lyme

Old Lyme seems to be turning into a little enclave for art, interiors, and design with Cooley Gallery, Artemisia, E.F Watermelon, and now 26 Lyme Street, a new interiors, antique and art gallery, just a stone’s throw from each other. I stopped in the other day to see what Interior Designer Peter Carlson is up to. Peter is famous among designers for his architecturally inspired lamps (his wholesale showroom is in NYC), and now he’s bringing his keen eye for antiques and interiors to our little town. It’s a treat to meander through the space, with unusual objects like a prince-ready (hey Meghan!) Biedermeier cradle to a handmade shagreen coffee table, and local artists’ works like Georgiana Goodwin’s Verre Eglomisé (a French method of painting and gilding onto the rear face of glass to produce a mirror finish) and Kat Murphy’s abstract paintings. Everything in the shop is ogle-worthy and in this sad age of antiques mainly on the internet, it’s lovely to see some real gems. His lamps and sconces are available by special order here, too. I’ll be saving my pennies for one of these elegant and elemental rock crystal chandeliers.

See the lamp collection here.
