All good things for Dad

My husband needs some new clothes, but like most guys, he’s weirdly picky and hates to shop. Here’s our conversation while shopping online for some vacation duds:
Me: How about these?
Him: I already have those.
Me: What about this?
Him: I’d never wear that.
Me: I like this jacket.
Him: I don’tDo we have to do this NOW?
Guess what he’s not getting for father’s day. I do, however, think he would enjoy a gift certificate for any of the stuff below.
Happy Father’s Day,
Erica

Empower Zip Line Tours

Middletown
You don’t have to trek all the way to Costa Rica for an authentic zip line canopy tour. Now you can get a (much cheaper) thrill right here in CT. Owner Joe Dering, has turned a defunct driving range into the longest and fastest zip line in New England. After strapping in, you’ll zip through field and forest and conquer strategically placed obstacles (a tight wire, skybridge and cargo net) along the way, while safely ensconced in your harness and helmut. A unique, heart-stopping adventure, just up the road. $42 per person, reservations in advance. Just for The E List readers, Joe’s throwing in a free tee with your ride;

Sea Sherpa Kayak
Yet to put paddle to water? No matter, Gerry Polinsky, owner of Sea Sherpa Kayak has you covered, offering lessons and tours for all levels and abilities. Ply the coastline of L.I. sound or, for a serene and waveless ride, put in at Hamburg Cove. Those more advanced or adventurous can take to the open ocean under Gerry’s experienced eye. If too much testosterone intimidates the paddler in you, Gerry offers all-women tours, too. Find plenty of info and a calendar of upcoming events on his website. Say you saw it on The E List and take 10% off any tour through October 31st.

CT Bike Tours
Bike or boat? If you’re plagued by indecision, here’s a tour on wheels AND water. This leisurely 19 mile guided ride leaves from the Guilford Green and meanders along country coastline roads, providing spectacular Sound views from Mulberry Point and Sachem’s Head. Stop for a snack on the beach before heading to Stony Creek for a boat tour of the Thimble Islands. And if you’re too pooped to peddle back to Guilford, Coach Mark will deliver your car to the boat. By reservation only, $185 per couple, $105 per person. Say you saw it on The E List and take 10% off through October 3rd.

Latitude 41
Mystic Seaport

Rent a boat for an afternoon sail at Mystic Seaport, then head straight to Latitude 41 for dinner. The old Seamen’s Inne has morphed into a modern room with a fresh, locally-sourced menu–a rare thing for a museum canteen. Virtually everything on the menu comes from New England (or not too far offshore), from the Stonington scallops to the Berkshire pork and Deep River-based Fabled Foods bread. While you can happily cobble together a dinner of starters (carmelized onion flatbread, sweet calamari with a hint of fire, a dinner-sized hunk of iceberg showered with chunks of applewood bacon and blue cheese)) we all salivated over my husband’s dish of barely seared tuna on a bed of edamame hash with slivers of chewy rice gnocchi and a flourish of micro greens. The chef and manager strongly support local farms and it’s evident in the thoughtful cuisine and organic and biodynamic wine list.  Definitely not your usual tourist grub.
