Fresh Salt

A waterfront restaurant with great food? It’s not only about the perfect buttery lobster roll and creamy New England clam chowder at Saybrook Point Inn’s new restaurant, Fresh Salt. A tasteful renovation (pale woods, slate bar, stone fireplace) and enormous new windows that deliver an expansive view of the Long Island Sound make this a happy place for breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks (try the clear Cosmo).
Plenty of farmer friends are represented on the locally sourced menu (the micro greens in my salad were recognizably Two Guys from Woodbridge) and the menu boasts a mix of classic New England seafood and some ambitious entrees (rack of Iberian Wild Pork!). The Tasting Menu at the bar includes a daily oyster list and fantastic scallop ceviche. And that view! The photo at right is a closeup of what may be the best hotel room in Connecticut, The Lighthouse Suite on the dock above the harbormaster!
