DESCRIPTION:Focus on Fall – Spectrum Art Gallery Exhibit Opens September 18 \nSpectrum Art Gallery and Artisans Store in Centerbrook presents its annual Focus on Fall\, a 7-week seasonal exhibition celebrating the colors\, textures\, atmosphere\, and natural transformations of autumn. \nThe show features painting\, mixed media\, photography\, sculpture\, fine crafts\, and seasonal artisan pieces inspired by changing foliage\, landscapes\, fall light\, weather\, wildlife\, harvest imagery\, and the shifting beauty of nature during this distinctive time of year. \nJoin Spectrum for the Opening Reception\, Friday\, September 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm to enjoy fine art\, crafts\, wine\, and refreshments\, and throughout the Open House Weekend\, Saturday\, September 19 from 1 to 6 pm and Sunday\, September 20\, from 1 to 5 pm. The exhibit runs through Saturday\, November 7. \nAs always\, Spectrum’s Artisans Store offers new pottery\, glass\, fiber\, home décor\, jewelry\, clothing\, and accessories\, as well as children’s books and toys. DESCRIPTION:Women played a huge and often under-recognized role in the Vietnam War—both militarily and culturally. They worked under combat conditions\, and carried invisible wounds long after the war ended. About 11\,000 U.S. military women served in Vietnam\, with the vast majority being nurses (Army\, Navy\, and Air Force). “A Piece of My Heart” is a vivid\, personalized portrayal\, giving names and faces to the thousands of women who served during the war\, and acknowledging their roles as essential\, even when they weren’t always appreciated at the time. The play has heart\, humor\, sadness and grief with a beautiful soundtrack of music from the sixties and seventies. \nTickets are $60 for adults; $55 for seniors; $25 for students of all ages (plus fee) and are available by calling the Playhouse box office at 860.767.7318 or purchase online.
