A Note from the Artistic Director:
“Sing out, Louise!” Who needs a reason to program Gypsy, which is possibly the best musical ever written? But when one of our favorite directors, Jenn Thompson (Bye Bye Birdie, Oklahoma!, The Music Man, Anne of Green Gables), shared that Gypsy was on her bucket list, I really had no choice. We are excited to produce this classic for the first time!

Forget your troubles—come on, get happy! The tradition of turning a barn into a theater finds fertile new ground in a joyous world premiere inspired by the classic Judy Garland-Gene Kelly movie. When theatrical Gloria invites fellow troupers to the family farm with the idea of putting on a show, her practical sister Jane is stubborn as a mule but relents because the farm needs work—and workers. Sisterhood, budding romance and a Broadway-bound musical are all at risk. But there’s nothing like the sunshine of hits from the American songbook to chase all your cares away! Age Rating: G

When I first read this moving new musical, I was inspired as I rarely am by a piece of theater. I am particularly excited to bring Tony Award-winning director John Doyle to Goodspeed for the first time as he interprets this stunning book by Pulitzer Prize-winner Robert Shenkkan. For me, The 12 is ultimately a story about choosing to carry hope out into the world and that is something of which we all need more. Please join us.

For me, I remember starting the standing ovation at the end of Act 1 as a starstruck theatre student on an early trip to New York. I’d never seen such a performance and it honors a moment in American pop culture that is unassailable. We are honored to offer the story—and music—of “The Dreams” to Goodspeed audiences.
