Online registration will open on February 22 for Spring 2021 classes and workshops at Guilford Art Center. Classes and workshops will begin the week of March 29, and are offered for adults, teens and youth. The spring semester runs from March 29 – June 5. Registration will continue to be online only.
The semester will continue to be a hybrid of on-campus and online offerings. Class sizes for on-campus gatherings will continue to be limited and with a strict masking mandate and all other protocols in place, in order to operate safely. Classes and workshops are available in a variety of mediums, including beading, blacksmithing, calligraphy, ceramics, drawing, fiber arts, metalsmithing, painting, photography, sculpture, and weaving.
“We’ve created flexible learning opportunities for all of our students” says GAC Executive Director Maureen Belden. “Our school is open for in-person classes and we’ve been excited to welcome back our local students. However, our robust offerings of online classes have allowed us to connect with new students and instructors from across the country. It’s been an exciting way to forge new connections and educational offerings.”
Blacksmithing classes include introductory sessions, forged blades, BBQ tools, and war hammers. Pottery students can pursue hand building and potter’s wheel techniques. Expanded fiber arts classes include Tunisian crochet, sewing machine basics, quilting, pattern making, and leaf and textile printing.
Painting classes include watercolors, figurative abstraction, pen & ink and intuitive painting. Drawing classes include portraiture, fashion drawing & design, pastels and art nouveau design. Metals includes introductory classes and metal casting. Special interest classes include monoprinting and collage.
Children’s classes include painting and drawing, clay, sewing, hand stitching and exploratory art. Blacksmithing for teens will be offered. April vacation daily workshops are scheduled for the week of April 12 for youth and teens.
