SUMMARY:In Hine Sight – Eyes Wide Open
DESCRIPTION:Photo: Early Dawn Farm by Skip Hine \nAbout Skip Hine’s Garde Exhibition \nOpening Reception: Sunday\, August 16 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm before the Our House Concert \nFour years ago\, I published my book “Memories in Hine Sight – My Life With a Camera” highlighting my life and career as an award winning commercial photographer in my NYC studio or traveling the world shooting for major advertising and corporate clients. \nAs much as I love what I’ve been able to do for 50 years\, Deb and I now live full time in Lyme where I continue shooting for clients but\, most importantly\, emphasizing my own personal work. \nSince the book’s release\, my work has been shown in art galleries\, cover stories with Ink Magazine\, Estuary and Lyme/Old Lyme Neighbors\, schools\, libraries\, international podcasts\, permanent collections\, retail stores\, book signings\, and interviews by Channel 8’s Anne Nyberg\, CT Examiner\, and LymeLine. \nI finally had a chance to tell my story. \nDuring my career of incredible experiences that I never dreamed of\, I was fortunate to work with memorable actors and models\, famous athletes and CEOs\, stylists\, set builders\, and producers. I tried to take advantage of the opportunities which allowed me to shoot portraits for my own portfolio after the project was over; some of these are included in the show. \nGone are the days of needing $10\,000 cameras and a crew on set; I now shoot on a more personal level as a creative artist\, which allows me to be much more flexible by relying on what I learned all these years through photography and design without relying on AI manipulation to memorialize images of textures\, shapes and light in the world around us. \nBecause my parents died so young\, my dad’s photographs of our childhood motivated me to memorialize people and the scenes around me. \nWhether it’s a French château or a portrait of a local artisan\, there is a story behind every photograph. \nThis exhibition will be a part of my next book titled – “In Hine Sight – Eyes Wide Open”

SUMMARY:I-Park Presents - Latitude 49: Five New Compositions
DESCRIPTION:Photo Credit: Brittany Faith Photography \nThis concert is the culmination of a 10-day residency at I-Park. In this intimate setting\, the participants will share ideas as they workshop five new works for their world premieres. The residency pairs a high-profile ensemble with five composers. Benefits for the composers: hearing their music refined and reimagined in real time\, candid dialogue and artistic risk-taking. And somewhat uniquely\, an assurance from the ensemble that the new works will have an impactful performance lifespan beyond the premiere. \nThis year’s ensemble-in-residence is Latitude 49. Blending the finesse of a classical ensemble with the drive and precision of a finely tuned rock band\, Latitude 49 has been energizing audiences with the most exciting music of our time since 2012. Latitude 49’s work with living composers is at the heart of its mission\, yielding nearly 100 premieres since the group’s founding in 2012 by a multitude of composers ranging from aspiring students to Pulitzer prize-winning masters. Latitude 49 is Max Geissler\, cello; Andy Hall\, saxophones; Andy Hudson\, clarinets; Jani Parsons\, piano; Chris Sies\, percussion and electronics; Timothy Steeves\, violin and viola. \nI-Park is proud to bring together the following composers and Latitude 49:\nDavid Crowell\, New York\nPeter Fahey\, Ireland\nGemma Peacocke\, New Zealand\nCole Reyes\, Illinois\nMax Vinetz\, New York \nThis onsite residency is a unique opportunity for composers and musicians to engage in a respectful\, creative dialogue. The compositions will be transformed in subtle\, and sometimes dramatic\, ways. The amount of rehearsal time invested in these performances will be readily apparent at the concert! \nIn person VIP with post concert reception tickets are $45\, or purchase a livestream ticket for $10.00. \nPurchase tickets \nQuestions can be directed to events@i-park.org or 860-873-2468. \nThis year’s residency is generously funded by grants from the Bafflin Foundation\, Maximilian E. & Marion O. Hoffman Foundation and Elizabeth Raymond Ambler Trust.

SUMMARY:Tree Swallow Cruises
DESCRIPTION:Witness one of the most spectacular avian events when thousands of Tree Swallows congregate on the lower Connecticut River at sunset to settle in on a giant communal roost during their fall migration. Birds come from miles away\, creating a ballet of synchronized flight before settling down for the night. Renowned ornithologist and artist Roger Tory Peterson wrote that “the tornadoes of Tree Swallows eclipsed any other avian spectacle I have ever seen.” Join Connecticut Audubon naturalists and journey from Essex\, by train and then by boat to see the awe–inspiring display. Enjoy picturesque scenery from the 70–foot Mississippi–style river boat’s three decks. Snacks\, a full bar\, and restrooms are available on board. If you take only one trip this fall\, make sure it’s this one! \nTours depart from the Essex Steam Train & River Boat in Essex. Appropriate for children eight years and over. \nTours are approximately three and a half hours in length and vary in departure time from 3:30 – 5 pm\, depending on the date chosen (the later in the month\, the earlier the departure time).

SUMMARY:Light Up the Night
DESCRIPTION:Congenital Heart Families sleep in hospital chairs\, skip meals\, and struggle to manage their upended lives from their child’s bedside. Hours turn into days\, days to weeks\, and weeks to months. Still\, they stay. A job may be sacrificed\, income is lost\, bills accumulate. They ride an emotional rollercoaster between fear and joy. They feel isolated\, but they don’t budge. They have become their child’s most powerful advocate\, making life-changing decisions. \nThis fall\, we invite you to honor these children and raise essential support for these families at our annual Light Up the Night celebration! \nJoin us for an evening of food\, drinks\, friends\, and fun\, featuring dinner\, custom cocktails\, a silent auction\, games\, inspiring guests\, and the opportunity to raise powerful support for CHD families—funds that help ensure continuity of care\, allow families to focus on their child’s emotional and physical needs as well as their own\, and enable them to fully participate in bringing about the best possible outcome for their child. This fall\, we invite you to Light Up the Night for Congenital Heart Families. \nWe can’t wait to see you on Wednesday\, September 16\, for this beloved annual event! \nGet your tickets!
