SUMMARY:Quiet Corners: Small Producers of California & Oregon with Spencer & Lynn Wine & Spirit Merchants
DESCRIPTION:Quiet Corners: Small-Producer Wines of California & Oregon \nJoin Spencer & Lynn Wine & Spirit Merchants on Thursday\, March 26 for a tasting with Thomas Hadis of Henry Provisions\, centered on the small producers and quietly remarkable regions of California and Oregon that continue to surprise us in the best way. They’ll be pouring a lineup from producers like Walter Scott\, Newfound\, Enfield\, Phelan Farms\, Railsback Frères\, and more\, with wines rooted in places like the Willamette Valley\, the SLO Coast\, Carmel Valley\, and other lesser-sung corners of the map. \nSpencer & Lynn decided to host this masterclass to make space for the regions that don’t always lead with name recognition\, but reward attention in the glass. These wines matter not because they represent more famous appellations\, but because they offer something distinct: freshness\, structure\, energy\, and a real sense of place. \nSome of the most exciting work in wine is happening just outside the spotlight\, and this tasting is a chance to spend time with the producers and places shaping that story. \nExpect a relaxed evening led by Thomas\, with thoughtful conversation\, a deeper look at these quietly remarkable regions\, and a few surprises in the glass along the way. \nThursday\, March 26
🕕 6–8 PM
$30 per person\nAs always\, 10% off all purchases for the evening! \nReserve your spot!

SUMMARY:SECWAC Presents “The Third Gulf War”
DESCRIPTION:Eric Fleury\, Ph.D.\, on “The Third Gulf War” \nWednesday 3/25/2026 \nReception: 5:30pm | Presentation 6:00pm \n“The Third Gulf War” \nThe United States is once again at war in the Middle East. At this moment\, it is uncertain if it will be a relatively short and decisive conflict like the First Gulf War\, or a painful and drawn-out quagmire like the Second. Professor Eric Fleury of Connecticut College will discuss the origins of the conflict\, evaluate the strategies of the various players\, and address its likely consequences for both the short and the long term. \nWho: Eric Fleury\, Ph.D.\, Associate Professor of Government and International Relations\, Connecticut College \nWhen: Wednesday March 25\, 2026 | Reception: 5:30pm | Presentation: 6:00pm \nWhere: First Congregational Church of Old Lyme \nNon-Members $20 | Register Here \nAbout the Presenter: \nEric Fleury’s work lies at the intersection of international relations and political theory. He examines how contemporary topics build upon foundational concepts of diplomacy and warfare\, with a particular interest in how leaders both shape and are shaped by public opinion in times of crisis. His first book\, On Absolute War: Terrorism and the Logic of Armed Conflict\, examines how terrorism both affirms and modifies the classic maxim of Carl von Clausewitz\, “war is merely the continuation of policy by other means.” Prof. Fleury’s current book project focuses on the breakdown of the so-called ‘liberal international order’ as the guiding concept of U.S. foreign policy. Drawing on Alexis de Tocqueville’s Democracy in America\, he shows how the very effort to understand foreign policy as the expression of a singular ideology is in fact the byproduct of a tug-of-war between public opinion and the bureaucracy\, and that the current crisis is best understood as the failure to achieve a consensus within either body.
