SUMMARY:White Elephant Sale at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, July 11\, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.\nSaturday\, July 12\, 8 a.m.-noon \nEvery year  The Benevolent Society (TBS) holds its mammoth White Elephant Sale on the grounds of the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme. This is a huge fund raiser that began in 1936 and grows in size every year\, allowing the TBS to fund more than 25 nonprofit organizations across our region and around the world! Treasure hunters love this sale! \nOn the Friday morning of the sale\, a crowd gathers early outside the ropes surrounding the church\, waiting for the clock in the bell tower to strike nine. When it does\, the ropes come down and shoppers head for their favorite sale departments in search of hidden treasures. On Saturday morning\, the sale continues – and most everything is half off. \nVolunteers sell coffee and doughnuts both days (raising additional funds for charity). On Friday\, the food court is open for lunch\, featuring hot dogs\, chili\, homemade salads and desserts to help keep shoppers refreshed.

SUMMARY:GreenStage Guilford Live Arts Festival Fundraising Event
DESCRIPTION:Join GreenStage Guilford on Friday\, July 11 for a comedy-infused fundraiser to support the 2025 Live Arts Festival. The night will include a festive pre-show reception at the Marketplace featuring hors d’oeuvres\, a cash bar\, and a silent auction\, before culminating in a 65-minute autobiographical performance at Arthur Murray Dance Studio blending comedy and storytelling into one hilarious evening. \nCalled “one of the best stories I’d ever had the pleasure of hearing” by Front Row Center\, NYC\, Martin Dockery performs “Every Good Story Ends With One\,” an all-true\, humorous tale about an unbelievable\, mysterious romance that ruminates on the nature of comedy\, the delusion of love\, the tunnel-vision of faith\, and the fabrication of storytelling itself in a one-of-a-kind\, high-voltage performance. \nPraise for Martin Dockery in Cincinnati\, June 2025: \n“A mesmerizing and relentlessly funny and engaging one-man narrative… With 50 awards under his belt and nearly two decades on the road\, Dockery has fine-tuned the art of audience connection… Put simply: this is a must-see. Go for the comedy\, stay for the heart\, and walk away amazed that it was all true.” \n–Kirk Sheppard\, The Sappy Critic \n“Watching a Martin Dockery show is like catching up with an old friend who always has a great story to tell… an entertaining storyteller with spot-on comic timing. ‘High-voltage’ is an accurate description of his performance style\, with words tumbling out at break-neck speed and an intensity that keeps your full attention.” \n–Behind the Curtain Cincinnati \nAbout Martin Dockery: \nBrooklyn-based Martin Dockery is a theater artist who’s played in just about every type of venue\, from large theaters to intimate trailer homes to solitary performances broadcast from a front porch. He spends the majority of the year touring and performing his twelve one-person shows and seven two-person plays to festivals and theaters in Canada\, Australia\, the UK\, and the US. He’s also played the Mayor of New York City in The SoHo Playhouse’s immersive theater production Tammany Hall. Most recently\, he played Renfield in PUSH Physical Theater’s touring production of Dracula. SUMMARY:Madison Lyric Stage Presents Amadeus
DESCRIPTION:Madison Lyric Stage\, a professional theater company on the Connecticut shoreline\, presents Peter Shaffer’s suspenseful\, music-filled drama Amadeus July 18 – August 3. The history\, legacy and rivalry of classical music giants\, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri\, explode in a story filled with jealousy\, revenge\, malice and scandal. \nPeter Shaffer’s Amadeus is a reimagining of the lives of 18th century musical rivals Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The play\, brought to life with the music of Mozart\, is a tale of jealousy and betrayal…and perhaps even murder. The story opens in 1825 on the eve of the elderly Salieri’s death. A rumor has begun to circulate in Vienna that 34 years earlier Salieri had poisoned his rival Mozart. No one knows whether to believe it\, or why Salieri might have wanted to murder Mozart. \nFull of pomp and pageantry\, Amadeus is a brilliantly funny and sometimes tragic examination of a man at war with his God. Salieri\, in the long shadow of Mozart’s undeniable genius\, cannot forgive his Creator for endowing him with comparative mediocrity. Winner of five Tony Awards\, including Best Play\, Amadeus ran for more than 1\,000 performances on Broadway\, and was made into a major motion picture\, winning eight Academy Awards\, including Best Picture. \n“This play wrestles with huge ideas\, huge emotions\, and is set to the astonishing music of Mozart\,” says Marc Deaton\, artistic director of Madison Lyric Stage. “Salieri does everything right to earn the love of his God\, but God bestows the far greater musical gifts on Mozart\, who is infantile\, profane and indifferent to God’s very existence. In fact\, Amadeus\, Mozart’s middle name\, in Latin literally means “loved by God.” \nThe production is directed by Marc Deaton\, and features John Johmann as Salieri\, Nathaniel Baker as Mozart\, Allison Waggener as Constanze\, and Daniel Dykes as Joseph II. \nTickets are $55\, click to reserve your seat. P \nerformance times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00 pm\, and Sundays at 4:00 pm at the historic Deacon John Grave House\, located at 581 Boston Post Road in Madison.
