THE MONTHLY ROUNDUP Your Local Online Marketplace We know you want to keep our shoreline economy thriving, and we’ve dreamt up an idea to help customers find and support small makers. Each month we deliver a hand-picked selection of local producers to our subscribers’ inboxes. Here are our monthly selections: July 2021 Edition Summer Simplicity Of all the new shops that have cropped up across the Shoreline, Homeward Collective in downtown Madison is one of the coolest. Their summer capsule collection of linen shirts, breezy dresses, Turkish towels, and an emphasis on Connecticut-made and woman-owned companies elevate your everyday with thoughtfully selected basics that are anything but. Find delightful gifts like craft cocktail infusions, linen throws, and fringed cotton shawls. We’ll be toting their sturdy straw market bag around this season from beach to backyard and everywhere in between. Taste The Season Azuluna’s summer menu is bursting with pasture-raised, locally sourced offerings that celebrate the sweet taste of summer in New England. As a farmer and chef-owned service, Azuluna proudly raises their protein on their Connecticut farm, and exclusively sources produce from local no-spray, no-till, regenerative small farm growers. Their nutritionally balanced meals are prepared locally and delivered directly to your doorstep. Our personal favorite is their signature salmon cakes with remoulade and wilted greens. For us, it’s the perfect tasty convenience for a summer full of fun and festivities. Azuluna is offering readers $20 off your first order using code EListSummer when you subscribe. Layered Luxuries Drawing inspiration from the coastal beauty of Martha’s Vineyard, Aquinnah Jewelry creates pure luxury for your ears, wrist, and neck. Each meaningful piece is handmade in Killingworth, CT and Oak Bluffs, MA. When it comes to necklaces this season, more is more, and we’re layering Aquinnah’s Snake Chain Necklace, Maya Curb Chain Necklace, and dainty Layla Ball Chain necklace to make the ultimate summer statement. Designer and owner Kelley Soloman can often be found in-store to personalize your experience. Find Aquinnah’s recently relocated shop in downtown Madison inside The Dressing Room Boutique. Creamy Indulgences Mystic Cheese Co. in Groton produces and ages their own cheeses from farm fresh milk delivered from Sunny Side Farm out of Voluntown. Just minutes from Mystic Village, their dine-in cafe offers a grilled cheese bar, cheese and charcuterie boards, and cheese cuts to-go, plus beer, wine, and ciders for perfect pairings. Mystic Cheese is currently offering three cheeses: Cachalot, a dense, buttery, CT-style cheddar; Finback, a crumbly, tangy, “pre-historic”-style cheddar; and Melinda Mae, a creamy, spreadable, soft bloomy rind. We’re nerding out over Mystic Cheese Co. for their true passion for the art and science of milk metamorphosis. Local Gifting Reimagined Nutmeg + Honey creates a seamless, custom gifting experience by supporting small businesses on their streamlined online platform. A modern take on the gift box, they keep things 100% local with a thoughtful selection of the best artisan products from more than thirty-five crafters, makers, and artists of Connecticut-based businesses (down to the keepsake gift box). Nutmeg + Honey handles every detail of the custom gifting process, from sourcing and designing the curated boxes, to hand-packing the products and shipping with a handwritten card for the recipient. Bestow a memorable custom box for corporate gifting, wedding guests, or any special occasion. We’ll be toting their signature blue box to every host/ess and housewarming this summer. Hometown Pride Whether you’re a transplant, a part-timer, or a permanent resident, there’s an element of pride rooted in each of the distinct towns that make up the Shoreline community. The historic town squares, local landmarks, and charming seaside boroughs that layer each town elicit feelings of nostalgia and happiness for its inhabitants. The Townie Bag, a classic 100% cotton canvas tote with rope straps, encapsulates this reminiscence with pops of your town’s significant spots, well-known lingo, and favorite memories. Townie Tees available, too! June 2021 Edition Botanical Beauties Since opening a year ago, the bright and cheerful shop, From Stem to Fern in Clinton, is one of our favorite nature-inspired boutiques. We’re filling our homes with their lovely and lively greens, and a perfectly potted plant (ready to give in a variety of vessels) makes a special host/ess offering. Find a thoughtful selection of original pieces by local makers, too. Good Food, Delivered Wynter’s Whisk delivers (literally) on healthy meal delivery, providing nutritious, chef-prepared meals wherever you want them. Their take on takeout is a weekly-changing menu of hearty soups, vibrant salads (including my favorite veggie-packed version), and tasty main dishes to please the entire family. Wynter insists on top-quality and mostly organic ingredients and hand delivers from Branford to Lyme. Ask about small gatherings, from dinner parties to bridal showers, gourmet picnics, and children’s culinary classes. Self-Care Summer Mama’s Gardens is an olfactory delight in Essex! Find a vast array of natural, organic small-batch handcrafted skincare and bath products, plus fun in-store events like vision boarding, crystal and saging classes. For Father’s Day, fill a basket with Mountain Man Salt & Sugar Scrub, After Work-Out Spray, and Day at the Beach Soap. Mama’s Gardens offers a unique array of metaphysical products, from crystals to pendulums, books & herbs, you’ll find everything you need to enhance your spiritual side. Head straight here to fill your guest bathroom and gift closets. Pro Shop Post Road Supply in Old Saybrook is a fresh entry to the slim pickings for menswear on the Shoreline. The range of Anchored American apparel, Duke Cannon products, Stanley canteens, and jars of Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ sauce make this sporty shop a go-to for guys (and gals that buy for them). Plus, the red motorcycle is kind of a big deal. Who doesn’t need a spill-proof cup holder for Father’s Day? (Hello, boating season). The Perfect Cup We’re well aware that roasted in-house sustainably-grown coffee is synonymous with Ashlawn Farm in Old Saybrook. Their cafe roasts and serves only the highest-grade, fair trade, organically-grown beans from farms on every coffee-growing continent in each aromatic cup. I ship my dad his favorite Ethiopian on the regular, and he’ll be thrilled with a three-month subscription for Father’s Day. Your dad/husband/anyone might, too. Order online or visit the cafe and treat yourself to their irresistible egg, sausage, and cheese biscuit. Seasonal Supper Celebrate the sweet sunny season at River Tavern‘s outdoor dining space under the festive sailcloth tent in downtown Chester. As the OG of the farm-to-table movement on the Connecticut Shoreline, RT’s summer menu is, as always, innovative, fresh, and sourced from local farmers and fishermen. New this year is fantastic barbecue (the pulled pork is killer), and RT’s pizza offshoot, Otto, is offering up summery cocktails. See you there. May 2021 Edition In Bloom Treat yourself or someone special to fresh, elegant arrangements all season long with a flower subscription from Mar Floral in Old Saybrook. Quintessential for good reason, it’s the ideal Mother’s Day gift. Raw Beauty Ann Lightfoot‘s handmade gemstone jewelry is elemental, feminine and timeless.
