Saturday Brunch at The Village Bistro, Chester

A favorite of ours for weekend brunch is The Village Bistro in Chester. We love the cozy, French-accented vibe and the creative offerings. Another lovely thing is that they offer brunch on Saturdays, so you don’t necessarily have to navigate the Sunday Chester crowds if you’re in the mood for a yummy mid-day meal. (However, they have music on the terrace and outdoor seating during Chester’s Sunday Market, so keep that in mind!).

Absolutely do not sleep on the French Toast, a heavenly creation filled with strawberry rhubarb cream cheese and dusted with powdered sugar. Maple syrup is served alongside, but we devoured it as is. For those with a savory palate, the cheese grits with a chunk of pork belly and a sunny-side egg are fantastic. On the lighter side, the Harvest Salad was a fresh party on a plate, studded with pickled blueberries, watermelon radish, roasted pears, and goat cheese on a bed of greens, and the Roasted Beet Salad with blood oranges is a burst of brightness and zest.

For cocktails we highly recommend the Clementine Martini, here mixed with bourbon, not vodka. I expected a strong drink, but it was light, delish, and a refreshing update to your typical brunch bloody or mimosa. The Huckleberry Finn, a concoction of gin, elderflower, cherry, almond, and lemon, was not only beautiful but a luscious combo of flavors.

Our server, Alli, was so cheerful and sweet that we wanted her to join us. Saturday brunch at the Village Bistro was such a fun way to kick off the weekend—we might make it a tradition!
