SUMMARY:July Open Studios at I-Park
DESCRIPTION:I-Park\, an international\, multi-disciplinary artists’ colony set within a 450-acre nature preserve in East Haddam is pleased to welcome the public to OPEN Studios on Sunday\, July 30 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. \nVisitors will have the opportunity to meet the eight artists who have been living and working quietly in East Haddam’s backyard: costume and set designer\, Anya Klepikov\, composer\, Julie Herndon\, poet\, Michelle Phuong Ho\, saxophonist/composer\, Sam Pilnik\, visual artist\, Gary Sczerbaniewicz\, mixed media artist\, Julie Peppito\, architect Ryan Ludwig and designer\, organizer Sophie Chien. \nQuote from current artist\, Anya Klepikov working on a site-responsive artwork titled ‘The Nun’s Bed’. ‘When I came across this bed frame at a thrift shop – (it was advertised as “a nun’s bed”) – it seemed the perfect container to express the experience and thrust of this residency for me: staying in a cabin in the middle of the woods\, isolated from the usual noise of life/work/world in order to connect/commune with a holier voice. Viewers will be able to lie in the bed and\, surrounded by the ethereal chime of the keys\, focus their attention on the rectangle of sky overhead.’ \nGuests will also have an opportunity to engage with the metamorphic site-responsive artworks created by Parastoo Ahoon during the June residency. \nThis is an OPEN Studios you don’t want to miss. You’ll meet the artists in their studios and experience the new works\, and works-in-progress\, developed during their month at I-Park. The studio crawl runs from 2:00 to 3:30 pm; then attend Select Presentations that feature time-based works – readings\, video\, and music. Select Presentations begin at 3:30 pm followed by wine\, lemonade and refreshments generously sponsored by Pasta Vita. \nThis is a family-friendly free public event. Art and music lovers of all ages are welcome\, however reservations in advance are REQUIRED. For additional information\, write events@i-park.org or call 860-873-2468. \nDue to the fragility of the artworks and the natural features at I-Park\, pets are not permitted on the I-Park grounds.\nImportant: Please note that only part of our campus is wheelchair accessible at this time. If you would like more info on accessibility\, please contact Joanne at 860-873-2468. \nWe look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones! \nClick Here for tickets and to make reservations.

DESCRIPTION:Join I-Park for the Final Open Trails (FREE) event of the year on Saturday\, November 6 from 9 am to 2 pm. Experience the seven new multi-disciplinary environmental artworks created during the 3-week Site-Responsive Art Residency in September. In most cases\, you can get up close and enter\, touch or listen to them! In other cases\, the installations are interactive. Upon arrival\, you’ll be given a map\, some wayfinding instructions – and you’re invited to undertake your own self-directed exploration. \n2021 Site-Responsive Artists \nDie-cast (led by Brenna Geffers and doug greene)\, Pennsylvania\nGibson + Recoder\, New York\nPaul Golisz\, New York\nBenjamin Heller\, New York\nLe’Andra LeSeur\, New Jersey\nThomas Putzier\, Minnesota\nDaniel Shieh\, New York/Taiwan \nTwo additional site-responsive artworks were commissioned and installed earlier this year\, in celebration of I-Park’s 20th Anniversary\, one by artist Marvin Touré from Pennsylvania and another by New York artist Sui Park. \nThere are also about 40 additional art installations for you to enjoy. Visitors are welcome to bring along a picnic lunch\, pull up a patch of grass and enjoy a safe\, outdoor “art in nature” experience. For those interested in bird-watching\, try to arrive at 9 am and don’t forget your binoculars. \nAlthough this is a free event\, I-Park invites you to make a tax-deductible contribution to the I-Park Foundation. This will help to defray the considerable costs of presenting this artwork.
