SUMMARY:I-Park Open Trails Day
DESCRIPTION:Photo: Isaac Dunne – every stone here sweating\, sighing \nI-Park – an international\, multi-disciplinary artists’ colony set within a 450-acre nature preserve in East Haddam – will be participating in Connecticut Trails Day on June 6\, hosting the first Open Trails event of their 25th anniversary season. The event will run from 9:30am-3:30pm. I-Park offers a particularly unique experience during this statewide celebration\, blending an exploration of art as well as nature. Visitors will encounter a diverse range of art installations nestled along I-Park’s 25 open trails. The trails are varied in length and difficulty\, though most are easy or moderate\, featuring an array of forested areas\, fields and meadows\, ponds and streams – as well as interesting topographical features. \nThis is a free\, family‑friendly event. Guests may wander at their will\, or participate in varied activities for visitors of all ages throughout the day. Join in a crafting session or scavenger hunt in the pollinator garden from 9:30am-12:30pm\, participate in a guided hike from 10am-12:30pm on some of I-Park’s lesser traveled paths (pre-registration requested)\, and enjoy a live music performance by “The Jolly Beggars” from 12:30-2:30pm. “The Jolly Beggars” bring the rich tradition of Celtic folk music and storytelling to modern day audiences. Bring along your picnic basket\, join in a jig and kick back for this lively performance to close out the afternoon. \nBy participating in Connecticut Trails Day\, I-Park aims to inspire individuals to appreciate the often symbiotic relationship between art and nature\, and in hand with that\, foster an understanding of the importance of preserving and protecting our precious natural resources. \nWalk-in registration for Open Trails will be allowed\, but advance reservations are recommended for a smooth check-in. A suggested donation of $10 per adult supports the ongoing maintenance of I‑Park’s trails and gardens. \nLocation: I-Park is a 501(c)3 public charity that awards 4-week onsite residencies to international and stateside artists in the visual arts\, creative writing\, music composition\, moving image\, architecture\, interdisciplinary practice and landscape design disciplines. Since its founding in 2001\, I-Park has sponsored over 1300 fully funded residencies. \nI-Park opens its grounds to the public every year for special events\, including Open Trails and live music\, Open Studios- where the public may meet and engage with artists in residence\, and for special events\, including their annual Illuminations Benefit. \nClick for more information or to make a donation.

SUMMARY:I-Park OPEN Studios & Holiday Cheer
DESCRIPTION:Photo Credit: Scott Hocking. \nI-Park\, an international\, multi-disciplinary artists’ colony set within a 450-acre nature preserve in East Haddam celebrates the season with Holiday Cheer during the final OPEN Studios of the year on Sunday\, December 3rd at 1:00 pm. \nAn OPEN Studios event at I-Park is a unique opportunity to take a look behind the scenes at this open-air\, private studio incubator where seven artists working in the visual arts\, music composition\, creative writing and architecture\, have been living and working together this November. Please note that the structure of this event is different than usual. \nWe will gather in the Common Area at 1:00 pm to mix and mingle with the artists. Seasonal refreshments will be served. Please arrive by 1:15 pm if you’re interested in a music presentation and reading in Studio B at 1:30 pm. After that\, the artists will return to their studios so they can receive you. \nBe sure to dress warm so you can comfortably visit all the artists in their studios. Get a glimpse into their creative process and discover how they utilized their four-week residency at I-Park. We will be taking an artist-led walk onto the land at 3:00 pm for those up for it to experience several brand new artworks. The walk will take approximately 40 minutes\, after which you’re invited to return to the Common Area to warm up and enjoy some more snacks and libations. \nJoin us and meet Julie Hensley\, a writer from Kentucky. Yongwon Kim is an artist from South Korea. Victoria Malawey is a composer from Minnesota. Eric Rannestad\, an artist originally from Chester\, CT\, now residing in Montana. Matthew Thomas\, an architect from New Mexico\, Yuan Lin\, a Chinese artist who resides in Germany and Eun Young Lee\, a composer originally from Korea\, living in Massachusetts. \nThe event is a family-friendly free public event. However\, reservations are recommended so we may plan accordingly. A $20 donation per adult is welcome and much appreciated in this season of giving. \nI-Park is grateful for your support. Contributions can be made when registering for the event here or by visiting i-park.org. Also\, I-Park is raising funds to purchase a new grand piano in 2024 and we hope some folks will be inspired to “Buy a Key.” Details available at the event. For additional information\, write events@i-park.org or call 860-873-2468. \nDue to the fragility of the artworks and the natural features at I-Park\, pets are not permitted on the I-Park grounds. Also\, please note that only part of our campus is wheelchair accessible. If you would like more info on accessibility\, please contact Joanne at 860-873-2468. \nWhen you register\, you will be agreeing to our Visitor Code of Conduct and granting a Photo Release.  Photo Credit: Scott Hocking. \nAbout I-Park: I-Park is an international artists-in-residence program offering onsite residencies in visual arts\, creative writing\, music composition/sound art\, new media\, architecture and landscape design.
