SUMMARY:Biophilic Natural Wood Design with Nautilus Architects
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by: Nautilus Architects\nAttendees will learn how biophilic design attributes can be discovered in interior design\, the ways to use natural materials and how to implement them in every space. \nMost attendees will be able to discuss the difference between natural and artificial wood surfaces.\nAll participants will know that humans have an innate relationship with natural wood.\nAttendees will gain an understanding of how wood can be used for the increase of human vitality and health. \nCourse provider: \nWalter Lourie is the sustainability manager for the global brand mafi natural wood based in Austria. Walter started as a home builder in Alaska in the 1990’s and eventually moved home to Vermont and started a national wood flooring service company with notable projects as the National Gallery of Art in DC and a hall of fame football player in Boston and several projects in 30 states. Since joining mafi in 2013 we have worked together to develop sensible language and an alternative approach to residential and commercial environments by promoting our relationship with nature through our daily material connections. Since we live mostly indoors\, we might consider being conscientious about the materials we chose to live and work with. A unique approach in the current market of cheap and easy\, it has opened the eyes of senior staff at hundreds of architects offices worldwide. \nObjective \n> Identify the fundamentals of wood.\n> Understand the wood flooring construction.\n> Understand the production process for engineered wood floors.\n> Describe the different grades of wood floors. \nBio\n> Luis Cadena is a Regional Manager for Riva Floors with 20 years of flooring industry experience. He has been part of Riva since day one\, supporting the company’s growth over the past eight years. Headquartered in Miami with factories in Spain and Portugal. NYC born and raised\, currently living on Long Island\, NY.
