SUMMARY:21st Annual Cabin Fever Charity Chowder Cook-off
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss the 21st Annual Cabin Fever Charity Chowder Cook-off held in stores throughout Olde Mistick Village. \nOlde Mistick Village will once again host its signature annual charity event\, the 21st annual Cabin Fever Charity Chowder Cook-Off. It will take place on Saturday\, February 28\, from 12 noon to 4pm. Awards and check presentation ceremony will be at 4:30 pm. This four-hour event will bring 8\,000-10\,000 patrons to Olde Mistick Village where they will enjoy dozens of delicious\, savory\, and hearty chowders from many local restaurants and eateries. Nearly 20\,000 cups of chowder will be served! \nWhat makes this event so meaningful is that 100% of the net proceeds from this one-day event will be donated to Always Home and their mission of Preventing Family Homelessness. Always Home is unique in that it is the only nonprofit in the region providing emergency housing support specifically for Eastern Connecticut families with minor children. Founded in 1998\, Always Home’s programs serve as a critical safety net for more than 450 families in housing crisis each year. Through a combination of case management services\, emergency housing stabilization assistance\, and targeted support from their Wheels to Work and Childcare Solutions programs\, Always Home helps families navigate their housing crisis and create a path forward. With their proactive and timely services\, fewer minor children experience the trauma of eviction\, homelessness\, or time spent in emergency shelters \nThis winter day will be filled with family fun and community support! Many of the area’s finest restaurants\, caterers\, and eateries will serve up their signature chowder from the warmth of the shops in Olde Mistick Village. A team of local judges will choose the winners in four categories: 1) Best Traditional Chowder 2) Heartiest Chowder 3) Most Creative Chowder 4) Judges’ Choice\, and 5) Via individual ballot\, the public will vote for the winner of the coveted “People’s Choice Award” for Best Overall Chowder! All awards will be presented in the Meeting House/Chapel\, in Olde Mistick Village at 4:30pm. \nTickets are $2 for each cup of Chowder\, or you may purchase 12 tickets for just $20. Tickets will be on sale the day of the event at 11:30 in those shops with Yellow Signs denoting ‘Tickets Sold Here’. Those shops hosting chowder will be identified by a Blue Sign labeled ‘Chowder Served Here’. All proceeds from the event will benefit Always Home. In the past 20 years this Charity Event has produced single-day donations in excess of $25\,000. \nWe are so excited to once again bring this great event to our community. With the generous participation of Olde Mistick Village Merchants and Management\, Local Restaurants and Volunteers\, as well as the continued support from our patrons and community\, the Cabin Fever Charity Chowder Cook-Off will continue to assist many families and children in need. Please join us in supporting this worthy cause. Parking is always Free!
