Brittany on Whitney: Choupette Crêperie

With over thirty menu choices, this charming, sunny creperie will have you yelling encore! Authentic to the French region of Brittany, the fresh-made-daily batter is offered in either wheat or buckwheat, and the fillings range from sweet (Crepes) to savory (Galettes).

I went for the Complète Jambon; ham and melted Gouda with the egg spread  just beyond the edge of the crepe, creating a FAB crispy trim, and garnished with sauteed mushrooms. The buckwheat lent an earthy flavor and a meatier bite than the more common white flour, dessert-type crepe. And speaking of dessert, I tripped down memory lane with an order of The Traditionnelle: brown sugar and butter – how can you go wrong? It was just as I remembered; rustic, simple, sweet and satisfying.

Choupette means darling – and they named it right. With French music filling the air, mix and match plates, cups and saucers straight from grandma’s house, and a French country cafe vibe, this place is a little getaway and worth the trip. But leave the NY schtick at home – service is on Brittany time.

It sits on a robust area of Whitney Ave. with ample metered parking.

On se retrouve là-bas!
