A Night with William Deresiewicz

July 14, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts for a night with William Deresiewicz, author of The Death of the Artist: How Creators Are Struggling to Survive in the Age of Billionaires and Big Tech.

Award-winning essayist and critic William Deresiewicz joins Chairman of the Board Michael Duffy and Artistic Director Jordan Sokol for a spirited conversation about the threat the digital economy poses to the cultural arts in America and the paradigmatic shift that must occur to save them. Questions from the audience are welcome; this event is VIRTUAL and presented via Zoom.

Members of the general public welcome; registration is limited.

“Deresiewicz astutely examines the state of the arts in contemporary culture . . . [painting] a vivid picture of the challenges involved in making art, finding an audience, and being self-supporting as an artist. . . . A savvy assessment of how artists can, and should, function in the marketplace.” ―Kirkus Reviews
