I-Park, an international, multi-disciplinary artists’ colony set within a 450-acre nature preserve in East Haddam is pleased to welcome the public to OPEN Studios on Sunday, July 30 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the eight artists who have been living and working quietly in East Haddam’s backyard: costume and set designer, Anya Klepikov, composer, Julie Herndon, poet, Michelle Phuong Ho, saxophonist/composer, Sam Pilnik, visual artist, Gary Sczerbaniewicz, mixed media artist, Julie Peppito, architect Ryan Ludwig and designer, organizer Sophie Chien.
Quote from current artist, Anya Klepikov working on a site-responsive artwork titled ‘The Nun’s Bed’. ‘When I came across this bed frame at a thrift shop – (it was advertised as “a nun’s bed”) – it seemed the perfect container to express the experience and thrust of this residency for me: staying in a cabin in the middle of the woods, isolated from the usual noise of life/work/world in order to connect/commune with a holier voice. Viewers will be able to lie in the bed and, surrounded by the ethereal chime of the keys, focus their attention on the rectangle of sky overhead.’
Guests will also have an opportunity to engage with the metamorphic site-responsive artworks created by Parastoo Ahoon during the June residency.
This is an OPEN Studios you don’t want to miss. You’ll meet the artists in their studios and experience the new works, and works-in-progress, developed during their month at I-Park. The studio crawl runs from 2:00 to 3:30 pm; then attend Select Presentations that feature time-based works – readings, video, and music. Select Presentations begin at 3:30 pm followed by wine, lemonade and refreshments generously sponsored by Pasta Vita.
This is a family-friendly free public event. Art and music lovers of all ages are welcome, however reservations in advance are REQUIRED. For additional information, write events@i-park.org or call 860-873-2468.
Due to the fragility of the artworks and the natural features at I-Park, pets are not permitted on the I-Park grounds.
Important: Please note that only part of our campus is wheelchair accessible at this time. If you would like more info on accessibility, please contact Joanne at 860-873-2468.
We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones!
