Eastern Connecticut Ballet Presents Ballet Spooktacular

October 29, 2022 - October 30, 2022

$14.00 – $22.00

Ballet Spooktacular at the Kate is a Treat!

For children who just can’t wait for Halloween, Eastern Connecticut Ballet’s Spooktacular serves up a mix of “BOO-tiful” dancing, clever costumes, and a chance for young audiences to be a part of the fun. ECB’s family-friendly celebration returns to the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts center in Old Saybrook, CT this fall: Saturday October 29 at 11:30am (sensory friendly performance), 1:30pm, and 3:30pm and Sunday, October 30 at 11:30am, 1:30pm and 3:30pm

Offering new treats both on and off the stage, the Spooktacular performance combines bewitching ballet, classical music, and special effects. Returning to the stage will be the haunting Halloween Waltz and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, the tale of a novice wizard with a malfunctioning wand. Guest Choreographer Krystin Dixon’s Dancing Bones will feature life-size, glow-in-the-dark skeletons. No need to fear, however: the phantasms are fascinating, not frightening.

Children are invited to wear costumes to the event (and their parents, too, if they dare). Trick-or-treating through the decorated theater, a parade across the stage and photo opportunities with cast members will follow the program. (So if you’ve got it, haunt it!)

NEW THIS YEAR! Sensory Friendly Performance
Saturday October 29 at 11:30am

To ensure all members of the community have access to high-quality ballet performance regardless of ability, Eastern Connecticut Ballet will provide a sensory friendly performance to welcome those with extrasensory needs. This year we are adding a 6th performance where families with children who require sensory accommodations can share the experience of Ballet Spooktacular!

We will offer a limited number of general admission tickets to the Sensory-Friendly Performance so families can find the seats that are just right for them once they arrive inside the theater. The house lights will be lowered slightly but remain on, and big moments of loud sound and flashing lights will be reduced. Audience members will be free to talk and move about during the show, and the costume parade will take place in front of the stage for additional ease.
