Farm-to-Fork at Harvest, New Haven

In an unusual outdoor setting, below street level, Harvest offers up a contemporary American “farm to fork” experience. The grand outdoor space acts as a central courtyard and is a lovely spot to hang and sip a refreshing Watermelon Mojito. And if you’re hitting a show at Yale Rep, it’s right next door. Location, location, location! I tend to go for the small plates like Steak Tartare  with truffles, shaved parm, grilled bread – and that quail egg! So indulgent. And on more than one occasion I’ve ordered the Crispy Artichoke Salad brightened by jalapeno, cilantro, red onions and ricotta salata on a pool of lemon aioli. Fresh, with a kick of  heat. Carnivores should not pass up the Butcher Board, piled with wild boar soppressata, chicken liver mousse, pepper coated cervelat, venison pate, and duck prosciutto with the requisite cornichon, mustards and fruit preserves.  The cheese board is equally lush, and both make great shares.

The Snacks & Shares are a good deal, in the $11-$17 range  and entrees are $18 to $35. Ample offerings of wine by the glass range from $9 to $18.

A cool outdoor escape from summer city heat.
