Flower Parties with Mar Floral

Here’s what I can’t do: arrange flowers. As a matter of fact I’m pretty bad at all crafts, and believe me, I’ve tried plenty (leaden ceramics and stencils come to mind). But when I heard that my favorite florist was giving lessons, I signed right up.

Marlee arrived at The E List office with buckets of blooms and we cleared our desks and minds for an hour or so while we plucked and planted. I’m not sure I can express how much fun we had and how stunning our arrangements turned out. Marlee showed us how to begin with the bigger stuff around the edges, adding buds asymmetrically, making sure we were looking at it from all sides, and filling in the holes with greenery. While I thought Sarah’s loose arrangement was the winner (I’m so competitive!) all of ours looked like they were whipped up by a pro. Marlee knows her stuff and shared plenty of tips and tricks. We all agreed that we learned the basics (and some flower names!) and could go forth tablescaping on our own.

What would be more fun than gathering a group of girlfriends for some flower arranging (and wine) and coming away with your holiday centerpiece? Groups of four to six work best and our masterpieces took only an hour or so (sans wine). Prices start at $50 per person. Call Marlee to schedule yours soon as she books up for the holidays: 860-388-4670. Fun birthday party idea, too.
