Here are a few local delights I wouldn’t mind for Mother’s Day!

Hen & Heifer of Guilford, our go-to for exquisite French pastries, is offering (among other delights) a “Mother’s Day Breakfast” which includes a bake-at-home coffee cake*, a bag of house-made granola, an assortment of four La Fermiere yogurts, a pint of organic “Harry’s Berries” strawberries, and four peak season “sumo citrus“ oranges. (*They also offer a large polenta almond cake as a gluten-free substitute for the coffee cake). A perfect breakfast in bed! $75 by advance order only by calling the shop directly at 203-689-5651. Available for pick-up on Saturday, May 9th. Hen & Heifer is open Thursday – Saturday from 12-5, and Sunday 12-2.  All advance orders are welcome by visit, by telephone, or online.

The Chocolate Shell in Old Lyme is offering online ordering for their artisanal treats and curbside pickup or local delivery.

The Village Chocolatier in Guilford is putting together a display of Mother’s Day goodies to purchase next door at Cilantro at 85 Whitfield Street.

Mar Floral in Old Saybrook is offering no-contact delivery or curbside pickup of stunning blooms including peonies, hydrangea, ranunculus, and more. Order early for best selection and Mother’s Day orders must be placed by May 6th. Or, even better, buy a gift subscription of a few months of bouquets!

Ashleigh’s Garden, known for spectacular roses, is taking orders for delivery (drop and go) only, and will have a selection of plants, vegetables and herbs out front at 500 Main Street in Deep River.

Carla at Elements in Old Lyme is known for her elegant, architectural arrangements. Shop online, call ahead or email designs@elementsflowers.com for curbside pick-up or delivery. Thursday thru Sunday, 9 – 5pm.

Choose a bouquet, succulent, potted plant, terrarium or hanging basket online for delivery at Madison Flower Shop. Or let your inner floral designer loose with this “bucket of blooms”!

A few favorites I rely on when sending gifts further afield:

Royce: The Nama Bitter or Au Lait boxes of tiny chocolates might just be my favorite treat of all. Must be refrigerated so buy a bunch to justify the overnight shipping. You won’t be sorry.
