I Was Going to Gatekeep This One…

If I were ever going to gatekeep anything, this would be it. But it’s my job to be a blabbermouth—and this one is too good not to share.

I always have a running list of those little jobs around the house that are too small for a contractor but too hard to tackle myself—finding someone willing to do them? Nearly impossible.

Enter Eric Schreiber and his brother-in-law, Stan Rheinheimer, owners of TruBlue, a new local Shoreline franchise specializing in handyperson services and home maintenance.

I emailed my list to TruBlue for a quote (extremely reasonable!) and an appointment.

A few days later, Stan showed up and dove right in!

First on the list: wrangling two giant bulletin boards onto my office wall.  Next, the considerably more challenging job of lugging 40-pound bags of salt into the crawl space to fill the water filter (squeezing a 6’3″ guy down there is no small feat). He also put my sliding-door screens back into their tracks, diagnosed my Ring floodlight camera (sadly, it was busted and needed replacing), and measured an old armoire so I could add a hanging bar.

On his second visit, Stan installed the hanging bar and completely shored up the antique armoire, replaced the Ring camera, hung a new pendant in the powder room, fixed a stubborn vanity drawer, and set up a dehumidifier in the garage. The bill for this visit was $200, likely less than what I would have paid a carpenter to restore the armoire alone! When I say Stan is a Godsend, I’m not kidding.

What impressed me most was that Stan didn’t just breeze through a checklist. He sized up each project, figured out the smartest fix, and tackled everything with speed and precision.

And there’s another reason I think TruBlue is worth knowing about:

In addition to routine maintenance and those never-ending handyperson jobs, TruBlue specializes in aging-in-place modifications and home maintenance for seniors. The team has completed a rigorous senior home safety certification program and can perform aging-in-place home safety assessments, as well as make recommended modifications to improve safety and accessibility.

So many of us are sandwiched between caring for aging parents, managing our own homes, and, in many cases, still raising our kids. Having someone you trust to handle the small repairs, routine maintenance, and modifications that make a home safer and easier to navigate can take a real load off.

They even offer a quarterly maintenance plan that handles all those sneaky little tasks you forget about. I’m signing up for this ASAP!

  • Replacing HVAC filters
  • Replacing indoor and outdoor lightbulbs
  • Checking the water heater for leaks
  • Checking and adjusting toilets
  • Checking and replacing smoke-detector batteries
  • Checking and replacing CO-detector batteries
  • Checking and clearing faucet aerators
  • Checking the garbage disposal
  • Clearing debris from exterior AC units
  • Testing and cleaning bathroom ventilation fans
  • Checking downspouts for debris
  • And more…

Sorry, Stan—I really did want to keep you all to myself. But some discoveries are simply too good not to share.

Mention The E List and TruBlue will take $50 each off your first two jobs.
