STAY | NYC

The Nomad was one of my favorite hotels in NYC before it closed during Covid. Happily, it’s been taken over by the exclusive SoHo House (now named The Ned) and has retained its quirky yet polished character, the sort of cozy spot you can’t wait to return to after a day out and about in the city. The excellent location in the heart of, yes, Nomad, with a subway stop less than 1/2 a block away, makes it easy to get wherever you’re going.

The deluxe standard room is downright spacious, with an ingeniously designed velvet divider that hides the shower, sink, and toilet. An inviting (and exposed) giant claw-foot tub sits in the room. Stripped pine floors, oversized glossy black doors, antique rugs, and a leather headboard add plenty of glamour, and the bar is neatly stashed in a vintage trunk.

No detail has been overlooked, with an emphasis on beauty products! Shower and bath gel, three types of shampoo (invigorating, cleansing, and a shampoo conditioner combo!), hand lotion, body lotion, and shower scrub (plus a loofah) by Cow Shed will have you dipping in for a bubble bath after a long day schlepping around the city. Don’t bother bringing a dryer, hair straightener, lint roller, or razor; even a mini Marvin toothpaste and mouthwash are all in stock. (I just love amenities!)

While you won’t want to leave the cushy and crisp-linen bed, the rest of the hotel is worth exploring. Enjoy creative cocktails in Little Ned, whose charming bartender mixed me up a concoction based on a freshly made strawberry shrub, or head to the intimate and gorgeous library for tea and a chat. The TWO clubs were active in the evening with live music, and breakfast at Cecconi’s was a revelation. The cheesy Cacio & Pepe scrambled eggs with sourdough toast kept us going until dinner (and I fully intend to recreate this dish at home).
