We’ve compiled a list of a bunch of local activities for you and the kiddos during February break and beyond.

 

Long Wharf Studio School Story Theatre
Saturdays: February 24, March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st

Using simple props, instruments, voice, and body techniques, the Story Theatre Ensemble will work together to create the world of the play for a live audience. Actors will unite to bring stage adaptations of the most popular fairytales to life before their very own eyes. Actors of all experience levels are welcome. Ages 9-14

“It” Adventure Indoor Ropes Course in New Haven
Open Daily

Experience the world’s largest indoor ropes course. “It” Adventure Ropes Course, located inside Jordan’s Furniture in New Haven features two 60’ high ropes course, with over 100 activities like zig zag swinging beams, angle rope ladders, cargo nets and plank-walking. Zip Lines, 50′ free Fall Jumps, Cat Walks, Climbing Challenges and even a special ropes course for small children.

Bounce Fun Center in Clinton
Open daily

Bring the littles for Open Play in a room full of inflatables: bounce castles, houses and slides. For the slightly older set, there’s skeeball, air hockey and plenty of multi–level skill games. Comfy seating for parents with free wi-fi, tv and magazines.

What’s better than ice skating in February? Lace up your skates and head to Norwich for some family fun in an open rink. The Ice Arena is also available for private parties.

Nature’s Art Village in Montville
Open Daily, 10am-5pm

Plan a day trip to Nature’s Art Village, a unique Connecticut attraction. Discovery Depot, a hands-on indoor activity center, and The Dinosaur Place, a 60 acre outdoor adventure park featuring over 40 life-sized dinosaurs, a DINO-sized maze, Monty’s Playground, the Jurassic Moon Bounce & more.

Cross-Country Skiing at Winding Trails in Farmington
Open Daily, 9am-5pm

Visit Winding Trails, Connecticut’s only full-service cross country ski center. Nestled in 350 acres of majestic forest, Winding Trails provides a quick getaway into a peaceful winter wonderland, centrally located in the beautiful Farmington Valley. Winding Trails also has sledding, ice skating and snowshoeing. You can bring your own equipment, or rent equipment in the Rental Shop which features more than 200 sets of rental equipment, including skating skis.

Kid City in Middletown
Open daily

Kidcity children’s museum is a perfect space to spend chilly winter days off with the tots. Three floors of imagination play, where kids ages 1 to 7 play pretend with their favorite grown-ups.  The exhibits are handmade and one-of-a-kind, built by in-house artists.

Connecticut Science Center Camp: SLOW MO
February 19

Get ready to take things down a few notches and slow down as you experiment with all things sluggish! You’ll work together to uncover the mysteries that your eyes cannot see as you investigate the science of speed, in slow motion, to reveal what is really happening. Connecticut Science Center Camp: BLOWN AWAY 
February 20

Hold on tight as you discover the power of air! You will be blown away at the power and force that air and wind can create. Complete challenges and find ways to make this invisible matter work for you as you experiment with air pressure, fly hovercrafts, and sail cars that glide around. It is going to be a gas!

Peabody Museum Two-Day February Vacation Camp
February 19-20, 9am-4pm

Are you looking for a fun and educational camp for your child during February school break? This two-day camp will be filled with interactive learning activities about animals, dinosaurs, minerals and other topics, including special viewing of specimens from the Yale Peabody Museum’s exceptional collections.

Camp Hazen Vacation Days in Chester
February 19-20, 9am-4pm

Campers from kindergarten to sixth grade choose from tons of different activities available, from Kids in the Kitchen, to Weird Science, to Adventure Camp. There is sure to be something that your child will love. Pick up and drop off is at the Bunting Dining Hall at Camp Hazen. Early drop-off and late pick-up are available.

Children’s Museum of Southeastern CT
Junior Engineers: LEGO WeDo Fun!
February 19, 8:30 am–12 pm

Head to Children’s Museum for a morning of design and building fun! Children use LEGO WeDo programming to create and problem-solve an assortment of LEGO robots in various situations. Junior Engineers will also make a LEGO necklace to take home.

Junior Scientists: Sweet Experiments!
February 20, 8:30-12pm

This program is all about candy! What is chocolate bloom? What’s up with Pop Rocks? Do you know how to braid Twizzlers? Can you explode marshmallows? Who knew science was so sweet?

The New Britain Museum of American Art’s Family Day: Ghana Paints Hollywood
February 19, 2018

Explore African Gold Coast culture at a Family Day presented in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibition Ghana Paints Hollywood, which features over 50 hand-painted movie posters by Ghanaian artists. Visitors can illustrate their own movie poster in the Robert & Dorothy Vance Gallery while enjoying West African drumming. Then at 2 p.m., interactive performer Soro Bindi will present and demonstrate traditional Ghanaian dances, songs, and stories. Visitors will be invited to participate in playing Ghanaian instruments and learning various dances while learning about Ghana through oral stories.

Bushy Hill Vacation Day Camp
February 19-20

Sign your kids up for Bushy Hill Day Camp featuring weather dependent sledding, hikes and outdoor activities such as making maple syrup in the sugarhouse. There’s lots of exploring to do on this 700+ acre nature preserve in Ivoryton.

Eagle Watch and Winter Wildlife Boat Tours at the Connecticut River Museum in Essex
Thru March 19

Take your older children to observe eagles and other birds spending the winter season along the Connecticut River. Bring your camera and binoculars on the river cruise and see the glories of the river in winter.  Naturalists are aboard to help spot and provide information on wildlife and hot coffee is offered in the boat’s heated cabin.
