How did Tiffany become a household name and mammoth brand? While you won’t find any blue boxes at Tiffany in New London, a new permanent exhibit at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, you will see the incredible breadth and depth of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s oeuvre. From his beginnings as a fine artist (several of his paintings are on display) to his pivot into the world of design, the exhibit captures his career and his family ties to Connecticut: his grandfather manufactured textiles in Killingly; Louis and his siblings spent their holidays in Killingly, New London, and Norwich with various relatives. The famous Tiffany lamps, silver tea services, glorious Favrile glass vases, and ecclesiastical stained glass windows in the galleries give the viewer an idea of Tiffany’s genius and mastery of many artistic mediums. Louis became the first design director at his father’s 5th Avenue shop in 1902 and his Tiffany Studio lamps, jewelry and objets d’art, inspired by the natural world at the height of the Art Nouveau movement, took America by storm.

Head over with the kids on Free First Saturday, November 3rd, and create a Tiffany-inspired stained glass project from 11 to 1pm.

Winter Circus Family Teas

Enjoy tea, a hot chocolate bar, and desserts in the charming Hendel Library. After, kids and adults can explore the Winter Circus exhibition together and find unusual circus themed items in a scavenger hunt. Then everyone will head to the studio to participate in the Lions and Tigers and Bears Puppets – Oh My! art project.

All teas are held on Saturdays from 1:00 – 3:00 pm
