Alice In The Village, Mystic

Looking for a little adventure for yourself and the wee ones? We stumbled on a jewel of a tearoom and shop in Olde Mistick Village that celebrates Alice In Wonderland, whole-heartedly.

Alice in the Village offers traditional British-inspired tea services for all ages every day between 11 and 5. We dropped in recently with a few young ladies (a tween, a 3rd grader, and a preschooler) and were treated to a delightful afternoon of sweet treats. Our attentive server gave us the lowdown. It’s recommended that you reserve a table ahead for Afternoon Tea Service and choose Tea for Two (or more) from the menu ensuring a tower of sweet or savory nibbles and tea for all. Luckily we’d arrived during a lull, so we were seated in the whimsical tea room and ordered a la carte. We snacked on warm scones, colorful macaron, crumpets and cake bites from a 3 tier cake stand while sipping a steamy pot of Harvey & Sons. In no time, the tables were filled with kids and adults of all ages, playing chess, catching up, eating sweets, sharing hot tea.

Allow plenty of time to peruse the extensive selection of Alice-centric goods in the shop. They sell everything from China sets to key chains and the collection is broad. The books run the gamut from several stylized renditions of Lewis Carroll’s original 1865 novel to more modern approaches to the classic tale. My favorite’s were these: Alice Decoded: An intricate text that touches on hidden meaning and secrets through the story of Wonderland and The Zen of Alice in which the author uses the classic story of Wonderland, and adds in the Zen Buddhist concept of “One Mind”.

Good to know: Grab a tea, coffee or yummy Matcha Latte (made with almond milk) to-go if you’re in the village and don’t have time to sit.

Tea for One $25 Tea for Two $46

Check out their offerings of interesting events like Tea with Mary Poppins, a Paint Night and a Chess Tournament on their FB page.
