There’s even more to do than just shop and eat in this historical, riverside town. Between eagle watching and pirate sing-alongs, the fun is already in full swing.

Gather your crew on February 27th and head to the Privateers’ Bash.  Arrive in costume or not and relive Riverfront history at the tenth annual Bash, a playful nod to the privateers who made their wealth by relieving foreign ships of their valuable cargo during the War of 1812. Grog, grub, music and dancing will fill the exhibit galleries from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm. Funds raised support Museum programs and exhibits.

The Essex Go Bragh Irish Parade and Festival kicks off at 10:30 am on March 12th at Essex Town Hall. Enjoy live music, kids activities, horse drawn carriage rides and events in the shops of Essex.

Eagle Watching is running until March 13. Bring your camera and binoculars and climb aboard Project Oceanology’s Enviro Lab III for a cruise and discover the beauty of the River in winter.  The Eagle Watch season also includes the Eagles of Essex exhibit at the museum.

It’s always good to remember that there is LIVE music at the Gris every week. Kicking off with the Sea Chanteys on Monday nights. It’s always a hoot to bring your out-of-town guests along to enjoy the old-timey fun.

We’re excited to know that Ivoryton Playhouse has announced it’s 2016 Season. Among the lineup are some all-time favorites, like RENT and Chicago.

Once the temperatures rise, we can’t resist Marley’s for a straightforward lunch menu of burgers, club sandwiches, quesadillas and salads; all of it set to a reggae beat. It’s just an incredibly short but very fun ferry ride away.

We flock to Scott’s Orchard on Plains Road for “pick your own flowers” for all occasions. We love to peruse their produce and plants on a weekly basis. 

The Essex Garden Club’s May Market gives us the sure sign that spring is in the air.  The fundraising event on May 7th, has grown into a giant garden sale, held in the Town Park featuring annual plants, herbs, garlic salt, garden goods, jewelry, worms for composting and more.

Climb aboard the Essex Steam Train for a 20mph roll through our quintessential river towns or better yet; take a SteamTrain & Riverboat ride which operates from May through October.  It’s the only Steam Train & Riverboat connection in the country.

Keep your eyes peeled for lots more events as they are announced. Burning of the Ships, Rotary Club’s Annual Shad Bake, River Tours on the Schooner Mary E. Essex keeps it lively all year round.
