Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience Comes to Hartford

We had heard from multiple show-goers (from San Francisco to Providence) just how moving Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience was, so we happily raced up to Hartford for a sneak preview before it opened to the public on August 10. The Connecticut Convention Center show spans over 30,000 square feet of floor-to-ceiling high-resolution images made up of over 4 trillion content pixels. At the entrance of the exhibit, we spent a little time in its dark and quiet corridor poring over historical information and timelines on Van Gogh’s life and career, between empty gilded floating frames. In the main space, we were treated to over 300 pieces of Van Gogh’s work from sketches and musings to full renderings, appearing, disappearing, and evolving while a tender and spirited score played in perfect step. Dancing and floating Almond Blossoms, swirling Starry Nights and fields of Sunflowers are just the start. There’s a lot to learn about the highs and lows of this famously tortured Dutch artist. This mesmerizing and emotional visual adventure takes about one hour and must be experienced to be believed. We are heading back for a second run!
