Chester’s Village Bistro Presents an Inventive Sunday Brunch
It had been too long since we’d been out for brunch, so when we learned that the Village Bistro was serving it up on Sundays, we were ready! Owner, Chelsea, and her talented team in the kitchen have created a menu that has something for every palate and is far from your typical Sunday spread.
We slurped a handful of Maine oysters with house-made hot and mignonette sauces along with freshly grated horseradish. Our table overflowed with sweets and savories and each plate was equally inventive and flavorful. Peaches were celebrated in both the yogurt and granola dotted with figs, maple, and honey and charred atop the Torijas — a french toast with smoked maple and mascarpone. A small plate of shishitos slathered in black vinegar, sesame and kewpie mayo, and topped with an egg was a favorite. And for those who love duck, the confit and “pickled things” on sourdough were scrumptious.
The Chicken Fried Steak came highly recommended, so we branched out to give it a try. A perfectly cooked hangar steak with a crispy coat, red eye gravy, and a sunny-side-up egg was a tasty surprise. Of course, we sampled a couple of pretty cocktails – Hucklecherry Finn (gin, elderflower, lemon, honey, and almond) and the Tequila Mockingbird (mezcal, ginger, hibiscus, and jalapeno – must like spice!). Next time, it’s Grits and the Brunch Burger!
