Dermapen at Esana Med Spa
I’ve been on the hunt for a fast face fix that doesn’t involve pain, down time or looking like a younger, but odder, version of myself. Plus, I’m a scaredy cat. I recently heard about a new treatment called Dermapen, did a bit of research and decided to give it a go. What is it? A relatively non-invasive (i.e. not painful!) anti-aging, micro-needling procedure using a penlike device that injects hyaluronic acid (a substance that is naturally present in the body) under your skin and helps to boost collagen production. The entire process takes an hour, starting with a microdermabrasion, then an application of topical anesthetic (the weird part – it didn’t wear off for about four hours). Waiting the twenty minutes or so for the anesthetic to take effect gave me plenty of time to pepper my nurse with questions about what to expect. She was knowledgeable and scientific. Results, of course, vary, but I had a noticeable decrease in fine lines (especially around my mouth) and a firmer, smoother and brighter complexion. It’s effective for diminishing scarring from acne, too. I left the office slightly red, but looked fine the next morning, and felt great for an event that evening. For best and long term results Dr. Deborah Pan recommends three treatments. Like all aesthetic treatments, it ain’t cheap ($400 per treatment, $1100 for three), but I felt the result was worth it and I just might head back for another.
