Digitize Your Old Movies and Slides at Charter Oak, Stonington
My daughter was born long before the advent of the iPhone, and the first videos I have of her are from a rented VHS camera; remember those behemoths you hoisted on your shoulder? While decluttering and moving, I found various tapes in at least three formats I hadn’t laid eyes on in YEARS. I also unearthed a trove of ancient slides. I’ve meant to do this forever, but with everything finally gathered in one spot, it was finally time to digitize!
Charter Oak in the Velvet Mill in Stonington specializes in transferring all forms of media to digital, providing download links, thumb drives, and scanning services. I dropped the stash off, and within a week, I had my movies and images! What fun! I spent an entire evening watching my baby take her first steps, devour her first birthday cake, toddler dance performances, and grade school poetry recitations. Laughing and crying and so immensely thrilled that I finally had access to these images again (and many I didn’t remember), it was the best trip down memory lane. Now, I’m editing clips to send to friends and family.
I was afraid to send the originals to the various online outfits that do this sort of thing, but dropping them at Charter Oak with owner Robert Webb made me feel comfortable letting these irreplaceable artifacts out of my eyesight.
Charter Oak’s services are well-priced and swift (turnaround was a week).
If you’ve got a bunch of old tapes or slides hanging around, this is a safe and convenient way to archive them.
